REVIEW: Eugene Opera Presents the haunting tale of love and revenge Rigoletto at the Hult

A dramatic reimagining of Verdi’s original masterpiece, blending striking visuals with timeless music and powerful storytelling.

Rigoletto took the Hult Center stage in a bold, emotionally charged production by Eugene Opera. With striking visuals and a heavy atmosphere, the performance leaned fully into the opera’s core themes — love, betrayal and revenge.

Baritone Grant Youngblood delivered a grounded, powerful performance as Rigoletto, carrying the character’s grief and rage with weight and precision. Soprano Véronique Filloux brought a tender vulnerability to Gilda, while tenor Bernard Holcomb portrayed the Duke with a sharp mix of charm and cruelty.
